Individual Therapy
When something in life becomes difficult.
When things don't feel quite right.
When we lose track of ourselves.
-
Sometimes we can continue managing everyday responsibilities for a long time while becoming increasingly exhausted or overwhelmed, with very little energy left for ourselves. Therapy can offer space to understand what has brought us to this point, explore the demands and resources in our lives, and consider what might help us respond differently.
-
Anxiety can involve persistent worry, overthinking, difficulty relaxing or feeling that we need to anticipate what might go wrong. Even when we recognise that our worries may be disproportionate to what is happening, it can still be difficult to change how our mind and body respond.
-
People also come to therapy with experiences of loneliness, grief, difficulties in relationships, changes in life circumstances or a sense that something doesn't feel quite right. You don't need exactly what you want to work on before getting in touch.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there is something specific happening in life, perhaps difficulties in a relationship or at work, anxiety, loneliness or a period of change and transition. Some people experience times of stress and overwhelm and burnout. At other times there may not be something specific, but more a sense that things just don't feel quite right, or you don't feel like yourself anymore.
Therapy can give us space to slow things down and understand what is happening, allowing us to look at things differently. I believe that many of the difficulties we experience make sense when viewed within the context of our lives. Our relationships, environments, and histories all shape how we see ourselves and how we respond to the world around us.
For me, it is important that sessions are based around what feels relevant and helpful to you. I tend to work in an open and integrative way, where we can be curious together about what is happening in your life and what might actually be helpful to you.
I offer therapy in both English and Norwegian. Sometimes it is simply easier to talk about difficult or personal things in the language that feels most natural to you. As a native English speaker, I can offer therapy in English without language becoming another thing you have to think about.
I moved to Norway from Scotland many years ago and understand something of what it can mean to build a life somewhere that wasn't originally home, whether that is part of what brings you to therapy or simply part of the background.
